Regular tests keep you safe on Yeztugo. Here’s what to expect.

Before you start

Tests  Why
HIV test Yeztugo is only for people who don’t have HIV, so this must be negative. 
Hepatitis B test Yeztugo doesn’t treat hepatitis B, so we need to know your status. If you aren’t protected, you can get the vaccine. 
Syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia tests Yeztugo doesn’t protect against other STIs, so we test to treat them early. Tests may be urine, blood, or swabs. 
Kidney blood test  Yeztugo doesn’t affect your kidneys, but we check them once in case you ever switch to oral PrEP pills, which can depend on kidney health.

When  Test
Day 1 You get another HIV test on the day of your first injection.
Every 6 months HIV test before every injection. This is required each time, and it keeps you safe. If you get HIV while taking Yeztugo and don’t know it, the virus can become harder to treat.
Between visits STI testing, often every 3 to 6 months depending on your risk. This is also a good time to tell us about changes in your health, medicines, or risk.

If you have Hepatitis B

Truvada and Descovy treat hepatitis B. Yeztugo doesn’t. Having hepatitis B doesn’t always rule out Yeztugo, but you’ll need a plan first, and daily pills may be the better option. Tell your clinician.
