| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Before you start | Visit with your clinician and lab tests. See Lab testing and monitoring |
| Day 1 | 2 injections and 2 starter pills. You also get an HIV test that day. |
| Day 2 | 2 starter pills, taken at home. Nothing else to do. |
| Every 6 months | HIV test and 2 injections. No more pills. |
| Between visits | Nothing to take. STI testing is often every 3 to 6 months, depending on your risk. This is also a good time to tell us about changes in your health, medicines, or risk. |
The starter pills help the medicine build up quickly. They aren’t daily PrEP pills. Never take your Day 1 and Day 2 pills on the same day.
Your 6-month visit
Your injection visits can be 2 weeks before or after your due date. If you think you’ll miss your appointment, talk to your clinician right away. They’ll go over your options, which may include taking pills for a short time.
