Common side effects
Most side effects are mild.
- Injection site reactions: pain, swelling, redness, itching, bruising, or warmth. You may also get a lump or bump, which is part of how the long-acting medicine works. See Lumps and soreness after your Yeztugo injection.
- Headache
- Nausea
Serious side effects
Serious side effects are uncommon. Get emergency help for signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, trouble breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue.
Staying safe on Yeztugo
- HIV testing keeps you safe. You must test HIV negative before you start, and you need an HIV test before every injection. If you get HIV while taking Yeztugo and don’t know it, the virus can become harder to treat.
- Stay on schedule. Late injections can leave you less protected.
- Yeztugo doesn’t prevent other STIs. Get tested regularly and use condoms.
- Tell your clinician about all your medicines, vitamins, and supplements. Some can make Yeztugo work less well, and your clinician will review them with you before you start.
Think you were exposed to HIV off PrEP?
Call your clinician right away. Tell them if you’ve had flu-like symptoms in the past month, such as fever, fatigue, muscle aches, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, rash, or night sweats.
