Staying on schedule is very important to keep Yeztugo working. Your injection is due every 6 months. You can come up to 2 weeks before or after your due date (weeks 24 to 28). You need an HIV test before every injection.
Planned misses (travel, scheduling conflicts, insurance delays)
If you know your injection will be more than 2 weeks late, contact your Freddie clinician before your due date. They can prescribe Yeztugo pills as a temporary alternative.
- Take one 300 mg pill once a week for up to 6 months.
- Resume injections within 7 days after your last pill.
Unplanned misses
If you’re more than 2 weeks late and didn’t take pills:
- Contact your clinician right away. They’ll check that you’re still HIV negative.
- If it’s right for you to restart, you start over from Day 1: 2 injections plus 2 starter pills, then 2 starter pills on Day 2. Then injections every 6 months.
If you stop injections
- If you’re still at risk, start daily oral PrEP within 28 weeks of your last injection. Keep getting regular HIV tests. Your clinician will tell you how long to stay on pills.
- Yeztugo stays in your body at low levels for 12 months or longer, but these levels may not fully protect you from HIV.
- This is important because if you get HIV while Yeztugo levels are low, the virus can become harder to treat.
- If you already stopped on your own, contact your Freddie clinician right away.
- Yeztugo can also affect other medicines for up to 9 months. Tell any provider you see that you took it.
